IBM® Trusteer Rapport™ FAQs

IBM Trusteer Rapport™ is a simple, non-invasive plug-in that locks down your browser minimising unauthorised access.

Find out more about how it works by reading the FAQs below.

  • What is Trusteer Rapport?

IBM Security Trusteer Endpoint Protection (Rapport) is a security software solution that provides financial malware protection, online transaction protection and protection from online identity theft for consumers.

As a BOQ Specialist client, you can use Rapport to protect your web browser sessions on Online Banking, which contain private or personal information.

  • Is it compulsory to install and use Trusteer Rapport? What happens if I don't?

BOQ Specialist recommends our Online Banking clients to install and use Trusteer Rapport to help ensure that they are protected against financial malware.

The installation of Trusteer Rapport does not affect how you use and operate Online Banking. So, if you don’t install Trusteer Rapport, your access to Online Banking will not be affected. However you will not be protected from some attacks.

    Benefits of Trusteer Rapport:

    • Non-invasive, easy to install and use
    • Requires no updates, configuration or maintenance
    • Free of charge
    • No changes to the way you use Online Banking
    • Will operate immediately upon installation for BOQ Specialist Online Banking
    • Compatible with Windows and Mac

Note we do not currently offer protection for Mobile Banking.

  • Do I still need anti-virus if I install Trusteer Rapport?

Trusteer Rapport does not replace your anti-virus and is not an anti-virus solution.  It works differently and helps prevent Financial Malware attacks that your anti-virus solution cannot detect or remove.  Trusteer Rapport is designed to complement anti-virus software/desktop security solutions and firewall service.

  • Why is Financial Malware a threat to my online security?

Malware can monitor your keystrokes, steal files and emails, and gather confidential data such as intellectual property, documents and passwords.  It can also change what you see in a web browser to trick you into providing your personal or financial information.

If your information is captured by a malware virus, it could use the information to perform fraudulent transactions on your accounts, resulting in loss of privacy, exploitation and theft.

  • Will Trusteer Rapport conflict with anti-virus or desktop security solutions installed?

Trusteer Rapport is fully compatible with most other security software. However, some third party products require additional action to avoid conflicts.

You can check compatibility (http://www.trusteer.com/support/compatibility-other-security-software) with other security software. If you have any conflicts or can’t find your security solution in the compatibility list, please go to Trusteer Support (http://www.trusteer.com/support/faq).

    • Anti-virus/desktop security solutions - help to stop threats, by scanning your PC and looking for suspicious files
    • Firewall - hides your computer from attackers, and helps stop criminals getting data in and out of your PC
    • Trusteer Rapport - secures the connection between your PC and the internet.  It checks you've accessed the genuine site, and if you haven't, it stops your data going to a fraudulent website.
  • Do I have to install Trusteer Rapport on every computer I use?

Yes, in order to get the protection offered by Trusteer Rapport, it is strongly recommended that you install on every machine used to access Online Banking.

  • Is Trusteer Rapport hacker proof?

Although no protection software will completely prevent unauthorised access or virus contamination, we encourage you to download and install Trusteer Rapport on every computer used to access Online Banking.

  • I've installed Trusteer Rapport, how do I know if it's working?

After installation the Trusteer Rapport icon will appear next your browser's address bar. When visiting a webpage that is protected by Rapport, the icon will be green. When visiting an unprotected page, the icon will be grey.

  • Which browsers and operating systems are supported by Trusteer Rapport?
